General Info: Unless otherwise noted, classes will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays Tuesdays from 1:00-4:00PM at the Seamark Building on Church Street in the village of Deer Isle. Most class are limited to eight participants so register early.

Cost: The cost of each week (two classes) is $25 plus the materials fee. 10% off class fees for full payment at least one week before class starts.

Scholarships: There are full & partial scholarships and family rates available.

Summer Workshop Schedule for Families

July 5 & 6
Fresco Painting with Saskia & Natasha Haugen
Learn the fascinating and fun technique of the Renaissance masters of painting into wet plaster and create your own masterpiece.

1-4PM

Island Arts Camp


July 19 & 20
Theater Banners with Holley Mead
Create colorful flag from felt or nylon to decorate your boat or porch. These can be sewn or fused. They will be the set for the play reading of Romeo and Juliet at the Opera House Wed. July 21 at 7:00

July 26 & 27 - Two different workshops!
Jazz Tap Dancing with Heather Cornell
Heather Cornell is the artistic director and principal choreographer for Manhattan Tap, which she founded in 1986. The focus of the workshop is to develop tap skills working with music, both improvisational and choreographically. It will tailor to the needs of the students, and will give a basic feel of tap vocabulary, body weight shifts, musical phrasing , aural and visual dynamics. Heather will perform at the Opera House, Wed July 28, at 7PM

Monday 1:00 - 2:30 - no previous tap experience
Monday 3:00 - 4:30 - some experienc
Tuesday 1:00 - 4:00 - everyone

Classes will be held at the Opera House.

July 26 & 27
Bringing Life to Line with Bruce Bulger
Drawing with the Jazz Tap Dancers as models. Capturing gesture and movement thru line and then working the drawings.

1-4PM. Class will be held at the Opera House.

Fee $37. Materials $5.


Aug 2 & 3
Bring Words to Images with Robert Shetterly
Find and make images that are inspired through poetry of Haystack director, Stewart Kestenbaum, using different techniques and color. Berg, Sarvis and Jones will be performing a dance interpretation of Stu Kestenbaums' poetry for the Opera House Wed. Aug 4 at 7:00PM.

1-4PM

Aug. 9 & 10
Music and Instrument Making with Brazilian drummer Richardo Frota
Learn about the music from the Amazon,thru rhythms,singing and improvisation. You will also have the opportunity to make and play traditional instruments. Workshop participants will perform with Richard at The Stonington Opera House, Wed. Aug 11 at 7:00PM.

1-4PM; class will be held at the Opera House.

Aug 16 & 17
Personal Mandala with Saskia Haugen
Learn the ancient meditative art of concentric mandala designs. Then create your own, mixing your own personalized images and colors.

1-4PM

iMovie with Richard Kane
This is a condensed hands-on workshop to learn the basics of using a digital recorder and editing methods of iMovie. Professional filmmaker Dick Kane will take you thru the steps of digital filmaking from learning about the camera to different shooting techniques to editing and making clips using i Movie. You will work in teams and be sent on assignment that will be edited in the end.

Fee: $60 for both classes.


Aug 30 & 31
Collage and Montage with Kate McNamera
Bring 3 objects that you want to include into your piece and learn several different techniques of transfer that will add to your collage assemblage.

Fee $37 for both classes. Materials $5.
